There are several different species of flea but most commonly infesting homes and pets are the Cat Flea. When a female flea jumps on a host and ingests a blood meal the female flea will immediately begin reproducing. A female flea can produce 40-50 eggs a day. From egg to adult a flea will live 21-56 days although when the flea is pupae stage it will remain in its cocoon until it senses a live host and will emerge; this stage will allow a flea pupae to remain in hibernation for up to 300 days.
